2020 in so many ways has started with being very auspicious for Bhutanese starting with the 40th Birth Anniversary celebration of His Majesty The King of Bhutan, Royal gift of the second Royal Child to Bhutan and now the august occasion of Zhabdrung Kuchoe which coincides very auspiciously with the Birth Anniversary of our Third King-His Majesty King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck– also known as the Father of Modern Bhutan. 2nd May is also celebrated as the National Teachers’ Day in Bhutan to honour the King who brought about modern education system in Bhutan.

Therefore, on behalf of the The Association of the Bhutanese in Perth Incorporated (ABPI), I would like to offer our heartfelt prayers on the occasion of the three major occasions for Bhutan. We would like to apprise the general community in Perth that ABPI wanted to institutionalize the observation of ZhandrungKuchoe as an yearly programme for the Bhutanese in Perth but unfortunately due to the global pandemic situation of COVID-19, we are not in the position to carry out the programme as planned.

However, to mark the occasion, KhenpoTshering Wangchuk from Zhung Dratshangwho is on a scholarship studies with Stanley College is performing a small prayer session at his place of residence. We would like to urge every community member to recite JigtenWangchuk as recommended by His Eminence Zhung Dratshang Letshog Lopen SangayDorji at your place of residence.

On this very day of 2nd May 2020, ABPI would like to once again offer our heartfelt prayersand sincerest wishes to all the Bhutanese in Bhutan and abroad. Happy ZhabdrungKuchoe, Happy Birth Anniversary of His Majesty The Third King and Happy Teachers’ Day!!!
