Good evening everyone.
First of all, I on behalf of the ABPI and the Bhutanese community would like to welcome all the participants and all the audience who are here to witness this opening match of the ABPI Annual Basketball Tournament 2020.
It is the support from the Multicultural Grants Hub, Department of social services that we are able to organize this event. For this, we would like to express our immense gratitude to the Department of social services, WA for providing us with the fund and making this event happen.
With this, we also would like to sincerely thank Team Phoenix for coming forward to collaborate this game with ABPI and taking the lead role to organize this annual event. Likewise, We also look forward to seeing other teams coming forward to collaborate on the sports events with ABPI in the future.
Just for information, there are other ABPI events coming up like the Annual Archery tournament which is scheduled on 19/09/2020, and the Annual Cultural Show which will be staged on 26/09/2020. So we are hoping the teams here will also take part in your fabulous talents.
Our home is where our heart lies and our motherland is deep in the heart of the Bhutanese people no matter where we are. So, when we come up with this sort of gathering, speaking our language, interacting with our people, we feel as if we are back home. Especially at this time of stressful situations due to this pandemic, being able to have this kind of great opportunity is happiness beyond. We have no doubt that everyone will have a great time this evening.
Lastly but not the least, I would like to take this great opportunity on behalf of the ABPI and the Bhutanese community to pay our sincere gratitude to His Majesty the King, His Holiness the Chabje Rinpoche, Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen, Honorable Prime Minister, and all the frontline workers who are working tirelessly to combat this current pandemic situation in Bhutan.
We would also like to take this opportunity to pay our sincere appreciation to our parents, family, friends, and to all the compassionate people of Bhutan at large on adhering to the COVID 19 protocol and successfully completing 21 days lockdown recently.
Finally, we would like to give our best wishes to all the players who have come forward to take part in this tournament. It is a healthy competition, and we expect every player to give their best in the game. Winning and losing are apart as it is a competition but no matter whether you win or lose, participation is more important than winning and your efforts in this game will make each one of you a winner.
Thank you and Tashi Delek.
